The Kashmir Files Trailer Review: Vivek Agnihotri With Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty

The Kashmir Files is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language film written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal starring Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher. The film tells the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the early 1990's due to the Kashmir Insurgency. 

A few days ago, the trailer of the much awaited movie The Kashmir File was dropped online and it is heading for all the right reasons. After The Tuscany File, Vivek Agnihotri returns with another spinal-cool story of the killing of Kashmiri scholars and their deportation from the valley. Led by Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty, the film also features an integrated cast of national award winners like Pallavi Joshi, Prakash Belabadi. The film also stars Darshan Kumar, Bhasha Sumbali, Chinmoy Mandlekar, Puneet Issar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Atul Srivastava and Prithviraj Sarnaik among others.

The 3.5-minute trailer begins with a scene where Atul Srivastava is seen asking his co-star, who played the role of a Kashmiri Muslim during the genocide, how many Kashmiri scholars he killed, to which he replied, 20-25. Even more annoying when Atul asks him if someone tells him to kill his brother and mother, he says, "I will kill them.

However, soon we see Darshan Kumar's entry in the trailer and the chaos begins. The trailer then moves forward and sees that the terror in the valley is escalating with horrific rallies and killings. Anupam Kher, who is himself a Kashmiri scholar, looks amazing when he describes 'their' Kashmir in philosophy. Mithun Chakraborty, on the other hand, nailed his character when he asked Darshan, "Kashmiri scholars have gone too far, but they have never picked up a gun, why?"

National Award Winner Pallavi Joshi too looks strong in the trailer, who has delivered her power-packed performance with utmost grace.

Well, unlike Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara, The Kashmir Files is touted to be a shocking, riveting and brutally honest film that is based on the true stories of Kashmir Pandits’ genocide. What works in the Anupam Kher starrer’s favour is that it doesn’t look like a love story like Chopra’s Shikara, which was sold on the lines of Kashmiris exodus but had ended up being a story of a young couple, who were a part of those dreadful times.

SUMMERY: The film tells the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the early 1990's due to the Kashmir Insurgency. The film was set to release theatrically worldwide on 26 January 2022, coinciding with India's Republic Day, but was postponed due to Omicron variant spread.Now, the film is scheduled to release on 11 March 2022.
